Trion City Schools Announces Public Review of Emergency Relief Plan & Budget

Trion City Schools would like to announce the public review of the system’s proposed American Rescue Plan Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Plan (ARP-ESSER III) and the supporting budget. A copy of the American Rescue Plan Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Plan and supporting budget documents will be available for public review and recommendations. The public review is scheduled for Tuesday, September 27, 2022, from 8:00 am to 3:30 pm in the Board room at 239 Simmons Street, Trion, GA 30753. New Beginnings Baptist Church Singing On Sunday Night September 18th

New Beginnings Baptist Church located at the corner of Highland Ave and East 1st Ave in Summerville will be having a Sunday night singing this Sunday night September 18th at 6PM. Special guest singers will be Jordan’s Shore from Nashville, TN.  Everyone is welcome.

Friday Night Football On WZQZ & Coaches Interviews

The final week of non-region games is tonight and both of our local high school football teams will be under the lights tonight.  Chattooga will travel to Murray County looking for it’s first win of the season and Trion will try to remain unbeaten on the season facing off against the Model Blue Devils at home.

The Chattooga at Murray County game will be the radio game tonight and both the Chattooga and Trion games will be live video streamed on the WZQZ Facebook page.

Mr. Ronald Arthur Esmann, Sr, Obit (M)

Mr. Ronald Arthur Esmann, Sr, age 75 of Menlo, GA passed away Thursday, September 15, 2022 at his residence.

Mr. Esmann was born March 2, 1947 in Detroit, MI to the late William and Shirley Havel Esmann. He was a retired firefighter/paramedic in Broward County Florida and played college football for the University of Florida. He enjoyed woodworking, and spending time with his family, especially his sons and grandchildren.

Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Elizabeth Hammonds Esmann; sons, Ronald Esmann, Jr. and Justin Esmann (Kristy); brothers, William Esmann (Susann) and Robert Esmann (Jeanne); grandchildren, Lauren, Skyler, and Jamison Esmann; and great-grandchildren, Emerson Esmann and Scarlett Villeda.

In accordance with Mr. Esmann’s wishes there will be no formal services at this time.

New Veterans Group Are Meeting In Lafayette

A newly formed veterans group, the Veterans Committee of Georgia, is meeting at the Lafayette library on the 3rd Thursday of each month. They are a group made up of veterans & their families. They would like to invite anyone who would like to join or just like more information to come to a meeting.

Mrs. Melissa Kay Wheelington-Nofsinger, Obit (M)

Mrs. Melissa Kay Wheelington-Nofsinger age 43 of Ringgold, GA passed away Monday, September 12, 2022 at a Chattanooga hospital.

Mrs. Wheelington-Nofsinger was born November 3, 1978 in San Antonio, TX to Mark and the late Carol Wheelington. She was full of life and loved her family, friends, and pets. She was a mother of 3 and a graduate of Ringgold High School.

Along with her mother she is preceded in death by her grandparents, Harvey & Charlotte Yarbrough, and Buel & Gloria Wheelington.

Survivors include her father, Mark Wheelington (Dorleeta); husband, Michael Nofsinger; children, Rowan Wolfe (Myah), Hudson Nofsinger, and Arianna Nofsinger; and sister, Amy Collins.

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Wheelington-Nofsinger will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, September 18 with Chaplain Steve Burns officiating.
Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery with Rowan Wolfe, Mark Wheelington, Michael Wheelington, Russell Amescua, and Tim White serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:00 PM until the service hour.

Mrs. Patsy Carolyn Trapp Hogg, Obit (H)

Mrs. Patsy Carolyn Trapp Hogg, age 74, of Rome, GA, passed away on Sunday, September 11, 2022, at a local hospital.

Patsy was born in Rome, GA on June 27, 1948, the daughter of the late Marvin Trapp and the late Nellie Weathington. She worked at Trend Mills and Pharr Yarns for over thirty years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Bill Trapp, Paul Trapp and Lowell Trapp.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Timothy Hogg; her sons, Tansley Cornwell (Carla) and Casey Cornwell; her grandchildren, Julia Cornwell, Lauren Cornwell and Logan Cornwell; her brothers, Glenn Trapp and Ray Trapp; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at 1:00pm in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, Oaknoll Chapel, with the Rev. Jackie Dutton officiating. Interment will follow in Alpine Community Church Cemetery in Menlo, Georgia.  The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, Oaknoll Chapel, from 11:00am until the service time.

Pallbearers are asked to assemble at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, Oaknoll Chapel, at 12:30pm and include: Tansley Cornwell, Casey Cornwell, Chip Fickett, Randy Trapp, David Robinson and Russell Barwick, Jr. Honorary Pallbearers are Gwyn and Nancy Ingle, Terry Smith, Bay Hollis, Danny Bice, Sharon McGwire and all her Lake friends.

Ms. Bonnie Lou Allmon, Obit (P)

Ms. Bonnie Lou Allmon, age 69, of Calhoun, Georgia, departed this life Monday morning, September 12, 2022, at Cartersville Nursing Home in Cartersville, Georgia. Bonnie was born November 18, 1952, in Chattooga County, Georgia, a daughter of the late, Cecil Earl and Ethel Mae Johns Allmon. She was also preceded in death by her companion of twenty-two years, Leslie Rush, brothers, Clifford Eugene Allmon and Larry Paul Allmon, and a nephew, Ricky Shaw.

She is survived by her daughter, Melissa Ann Allmon of Calhoun, GA; grandchildren, Johnny Lee Hunter, Kristie Hunter, Manuel Centeno and Christopher Butler; brothers, Earl Clinton Allmon of Subligna, GA, and Gary Richard Allmon of Lyerly, GA; sisters and brother-in-law, Judy Marlene Shaw of Subligna, GA, and Linda and Herschel Lee Croy of Calhoun, GA; sister-in-law, Judy Allmon of Summerville, GA; nephews, James Croy, Mark Croy and Michael Shaw.

Services to celebrate the life of Ms. Bonnie Lou Allmon will be held Friday morning, September 16, 2002, at 11:00 a.m. at Ponders Calhoun Chapel with Reverend Wally Walden and Reverend Eddie Cochran officiating. Interment will follow at Chandler Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at Ponders Calhoun Chapel from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday and after 9:00 a.m. Friday until the service hour.
