The Pleasant Grove Church of Christ invites everyone to their Fall Gospel Meeting, September 7-10. Barry Grider from Dalton Georgia will be the Evangelist. Sunday services will be held at 10:00 and 11:00 am; Sunday afternoon service will be at 1:00 pm. Monday through Wednesday evening services will be at 7:00 pm. Mrs. Sheila Dale Scoggins Mitchell, age 74, of Trion, GA, passed away Thursday, September 4, 2025, at her daughter’s residence.
Mrs. Mitchell was born September 1, 1951, in Trion, GA, daughter of the late Willie Roy Scoggins and Effie Mae Dunlap Cox. She was a member of the Harrell Street Church of God.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Scoggins; grandmother, Elena Dixon; aunt, Linda Ross; uncles Calvin Dunlap and Robert Owens.
Survivors include her husband, Richard Mitchell; sons, Shannon (Dianna) Scoggins, David (Katie) Mitchell, Jeffery (Jenny) Mitchell; daughters, Sabrina (Randy) Jones, Cherrie Scoggins; a brother, Charles “Sonny” (JoAnn) Scoggins; a sister, Janice Blackmon; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 P.M. Sunday, September 7, 2025, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lamont Kiser officiating. Interment will follow in Summerville Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Nathan Loyd, Michael Scoggins, Timothy Carter, Brandon Scoggins, Daniel Mitchell, Nickalous Mitchell, and Ben Mitchell. Honorary pallbearers will be Jason Scoggins and her grandsons and great-grandsons.
Mrs. Mitchell will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 12:30 P.M. until the hour of service on Sunday.

Week 4 of the 2025 high school football season kicks off tonight. In what has been a familiar scene this season, both of our local schools will be on the road tonight.
Chattooga had a bye week last week and will travel to Mount Zion in search of their first victory of the year after starting out 0-2. Mount Zion is off to a strong 3-0 start this year with wins over Chattahoochee County, Ranburne, AL and a 20-6 win last week over Bethlehem Christian.
Meanwhile Trion will travel to Model tonight to take on the Blue Devils. Trion is 1-2 on the season after a 41-20 loss last week to Temple. Model started the season off 0-2 with losses to Sonoraville and Cass but notched their first win of the season last week on the road at Coosa 44-30.
Both Trion and Chattooga games will be broadcast live on the WZQZ Facebook page. The Chattooga vs Mount Zion game will be the radio game tonight and will also be carried live on 99.1 FM and AM 1180. Join Chris “Bubba” Wilson and Steiner Davis as they will broadcast live from Mt Zion while Paul Cavin and Jeremy Burke will the call the action for Trion at Model. Kickoff for both games will be at 7:30 pm.
Teloga Baptist Church will be having a Homecoming on September 21st starting at 10:30 am. The singers will be Heirborn from Rockmart. The guest speaker will be Harold Helton. Lunch will follow the service. Pastor Tony Weaver invites the public to attend.
