Georgia is the 10th most expensive state in the United States for automobile insurance.  According to Insurify, the average annual cost for car insurance in the Peach State is $2,688.  Georgia is 15% higher than the national average.

Arson Suspected In Taylor Street Fire In Summerville

The Summerville Fire Department responded to a fire on Taylor Street on Sunday.  According to Summerville Public Safety Director Brian Ozment, the fire department responded at 10:30 PM and the structure was engulfed when firefighters arrived.  The house was not occupied, but did have power.  Trey Skelton, Investigator with the Summerville Fire Department, was called to the scene due to suspected arson.  A reward is being offered by Georgia Arson Control for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrator(s).  If you have any information, you can contact the Summerville Police Department at 706-859-0912 or Georgia Arson Control at 1-800-282-5804.

Georgia Gas Prices Continue To Decline

Georgia gas prices continue to decline at the pumps compared to a week ago. Georgians are paying an average price of $3.15 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline (subject to change overnight). Monday’s state average was 7 cents less than a week ago, 20 cents less than a month ago, and 43 cents less than this time last year. It costs drivers an average price of $47.25 to fill a 15-gallon tank of regular gasoline. Georgians are paying $3.00 less to fill up at the pump compared to a month ago.

Summerville City Council Meeting This Evening

The Summerville City Council will hold a called meeting coming up this evening at 5 PM at Summerville City Hall.  On the agenda, the council will be approving a contract that they have negotiated with Jason Winters.  Winters was the finalist out of three candidates for the City Manager position.  Also, the council is expected to vote to allow Mayor Harry Harvey to sign a letter of support for County Commissioner Blake Elsberry to seek a grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission to apply for a grant for the ongoing restoration of the Tooga Theater in downtown Summerville.  You can see a copy of tonight’s special called meeting agenda below:

Blue Ribbon “Best Of Show” Award For Alpine Church Model

The 2024 Chattooga County Agricultural Fair wrapped up on Sunday night.  This year’s fair was marked by remarkably comfortable weather and good attendance.  Fair goers were treated to entertainment, livestock shows and the always-popular blue ribbon entries.  Chattooga County resident Eddie Hawkins was awarded the Fair Best of Show and First Place blue ribbon for a model of the historic Alpine Church in Menlo.
