Trion Fire Department Reminds Residents About Open Burning

In response to calls within the Town of Trion Fire Department’s service area, the Trion Fire Department posted the town’s ordinance regarding open burning over the weekend as a reminder to residents.  Currently, the entire area is under the annual burn ban that is issued by the Georgia EPD to help with air quality in the summer months.  Each year, the burn ban is in place from May 1st until September 30th.  The rules regarding open fires in the Town of Trion are listed below.  Anyone with questions may reach out to the Trion Fire Department at 706-734-4917 or 706-734-4873.

Washington Nationals Recalls Amos Willingham On Sunday

The Washington Nationals recalled right-handed pitcher, and Chattooga County native,  Amos Willingham from Triple-A Rochester on Sunday. Nationals President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcement.

Shed Fire On Spring Creek Road On Sunday

Multiple area fire departments responded to a shed fire on Spring Creek Road in Trion on Sunday morning. The call came in around 11:15 AM and Trion Fire Department responded.  When they arrived a shop building in the 4000 block of Spring Creek Road was fully involved.  Firefighters from Trion, Summerville and Hays Correctional Fire Departments extinguished the fire and stopped it from spreading to any other structures.  No word on the cause of the fire.

Over the past weekend, WZQZ News reported that the Appalachian Regional Commission has released a report listing Chattooga County as a “distressed” county within the region.  That designation makes Chattooga County the only Appalachian County in Georgia to receive the designation.

Longtime Chattooga County Clerk Martha Tucker passed away after an extended illness on Sunday.  Mrs. Tucker served in the county commissioner’s office under four different commissioners: Jim Parker, Mike Dawson, Jason Winters and current County Commissioner Blake Elsberry.

Chattooga County Only Economically Distressed County In Georgia According To ARC

Designations for the economic health of counties throughout the Appalachian Region were released this past week by the Appalachian Regional Commission.  Just seventy-seven counties in the Appalachian Region were designated as “economically distressed”.  Chattooga County was the only county in Georgia to receive the designation.
