Santa sure is busy in Chattooga County this weekend. Last night, Santa Claus was at the Summerville Christmas parade and this morning, he will be at the Chattooga County 4H Breakfast with Santa.

Menlo School was on a soft lock down on Friday after a man fired shots into a home on Reese Street near the school. School officials said that children were not in danger, but took the extra precaution. Chattooga County Chief Deputy Kevin Woods said that the shooter left the scene before law enforcement arrived.

Summerville Police arrested a thirty-two-year-old LaFayette man on drug charges after the man was accused of shoplifting at Walmart in Trion.
This 2004 Ford F-350 was stolen Thanksgiving Weekend from Armuchee in Floyd County. The vehicle has a GA tag #PIT2020. The F-350 also has an in bed fuel tank and has been entered into GCIC. The trailer is a gooseneck car trailer with drive over fenders, tilt deck and a winch up front. Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the vehicle or information about the subject(s) that committed the theft please contact 911 or the Floyd County Police Department.
Summerville Mayor Harry Harvey and the Summerville City Council are looking to hire a full-time building inspector. The city has been using the services of a part-time building inspector for some time, but at least one city councilman is questioning the need for a full-time building inspector. The council discussed the mayor’s recommendation for a full-time inspector at their meeting on Monday evening. Councilman Rickey Hughes questioned the need for a full-time building inspector. Hughes asked if there was actually enough to keep a full-time building inspector busy. Currently, the part-time building inspector works after normal business hours, which has caused some issues. Mayor Harvey says that they are looking to offer around $45,000 per year for the full-time building inspector’s salary. The city’s financial director Carla Rutledge made the comment that it wasn’t likely anyone would want the position for the salary being recommended.
The Holidays are right around the corner and the Chattooga County Food Pantry is in desperate need of donations. The food pantry is located at 152 Senior Drive in Summerville and is open from 8:30 AM until 5 PM, Monday-Friday. The food pantry will take donations of non-perishable food items to help those in need in Chattooga County. Donations may be made by check, but the food pantry cannot take cash. The Summerville Christmas Parade will take place this evening at 7 PM in downtown Summerville. Former Summerville City Councilman and CHS Coach “Buddy” Windell is the Grand Marshall for this year’s parade. This year’s parade theme is “Winter Wonderland”. Summerville Main Street will present live musical entertainment featuring Charlie Long in front of the Chattooga County Courthouse beginning at 5:30 p.m. until the start of the parade. Downtown businesses and restaurants invite the public to shop and enjoy a meal before or after the parade. You can find more details about the parade below:
The Trion Public Library is inviting kids to a Holiday “Grinchmas” Event that will be held on Friday, December 9th. Children can have their picture made with the Grinch and participate in a Christmas Craft. The 2018 Grinch movie will be shown. The event will take place from 4 PM – 6 PM at the Trion Library, located at 15 Bulldog Boulevard in Trion.
The GBI said on Thursday that a North Georgia school administrator was arrested on child molestation and statutory rape charges after allegations of a sexual relationship with a minor.
