Due to the inclement weather on Tuesday evening, the Downtown Rome Christmas Parade was postponed until this evening. The Rome Christmas Parade will start at 6:30 PM. According to the Rome parade committee, this year’s event drew a record number of application entries, and that this year may be the biggest Christmas parade ever. Rome’s Christmas parade has continued to be one of the oldest and largest in Georgia and has delighted citizens of Rome and Northwest Georgia for over 60 years.
Several schools across the state received threats about an active shooter on Wednesday. The closest to Chattooga County was at Model High School in Rome and Cartersville High School. The threats all proved to be false and Georgia Governor Brian Kemp says that the FBI will be investigating the hoax and called the threats “acts of domestic terrorism”. Additionally, the GBI has said they will help the Floyd County Police Department and the Cartersville Police Department in their separate investigations into the threats. Kemp praised the Floyd County Police Department and Cartersville Police Department for their response to the calls.
The Summerville City Council voted to hire an interim city manager at their called council meeting on Monday of this week. Council members had previously stated that they would be taking applications for the interim city manager’s position through December 8th, but did an about-face and hired a new interim city manager this week instead of waiting on resumes from potential applicants.
The property tax deadline is December 1st, but Chattooga County Tax Commissioner Joy Hampton says that she is going to give a grace period for those needing to get their property taxes paid.

A Summerville woman and a homeless man were charged with burglary after they were found squatting inside a vacant apartment building on College Street in Summerville.
Summerville Police are investigating the theft of some tools that belong to a Cartersville man who was working in Chattooga County earlier this month. Corey Elrod told Summerville Police that he had been staying at the Coach Inn off the Lyerly Highway and had left a green, Ryobi tool bag in the bed of his Dodge pickup truck. The theft was believed to have happened sometime between 8 PM on November 17th and 8 AM on November 18th. The bag contained a variety of hand tools. The incident has been turned over to an investigator with the Summerville Police Department.
Chattooga County homeowners and landowners have until tomorrow to pay their 2022 property taxes without incurring any penalties. The property tax due date in Chattooga County is December 1st. Taxpayers are reminded that the Chattooga County Tax Office is closed on Wednesdays.
A former Chattooga County Deputy has been arrested by the Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit Drug Task Force on drug charges. Thirty-five-year-old Marvin James Armstrong was booked into jail on felony charges of attempt or conspiracy to violate the Georgia Controlled Substance Act and use of a communication facility in commission of a felony involving controlled substances. Armstrong was booked into the Floyd County Jail on the charges on Monday of this week. Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader told WZQZ News that Armstrong was terminated the first week of August.
According to a report released this week by the Summerville Police Department, a fifty-three-year-old Northwest Congress Street, Summerville man was arrested earlier this month on DUI charges after a Summerville police officer saw him driving and knew that the driver had suspended or revoked license.
