The late Georgia Speaker of the House David Ralston was laid to rest over the past weekend. Ralston, a Republican from Blue Ridge, was eulogized by former governors and legislators, and was notably remembered for his friendships across party lines.
Georgia gas prices continue to decline at the pump compared to a week ago. Georgia drivers are now paying an average price of $3.04 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline (subject to change overnight). Monday’s state average was 6 cents less than a week ago, 13 cents less than a month ago, and 18 cents less than this time last year.
Walker County residents needing help for Christmas for kids this year have until tomorrow to apply for the Al Millard Memorial Stocking Full of Love of Walker County. The deadline is November 30th. Assistance for families with children up to age 14 is available.
The City of Summerville has set aside over $32,000 to pay for Christmas bonuses for city employees. Full-time employees of the City of Summerville will receive $325 as a bonus for the holidays while part-time employees will receive $150. City firefighters will be considered as part-time employees and will receive the $150 holiday bonus. The city will be spending $32,106.61 for the holiday pay and that includes all social-security and taxes for the bonus checks.
A thirty-four-year-old Trion man has been indicted on charges of child molestation by the Chattooga County Grand Jury. Randall Duane Craig, Jr. will be facing the charges in Chattooga County Superior Court. Craig was arrested in June of this year on charges that he molested a ten-year-old child at a residence in Trion. In addition to the child molestation charges, Craig is facing charges of aggravated sexual battery. Craig has a history of run-ins with the law. In 2021, Craig was arrested at The Home Depot in Rome. He was accused of stealing batteries for battery powered tools. At the time, Floyd County Police say that Craig resisted arrest. He was also arrested in Calhoun on theft charges after Calhoun Police say he stole a variety of items from a residence in Gordon County.

On Wednesday November 16, 2022, William Chase, a 62-year-old man from Walker County was convicted by a Walker County jury of Forgery in the First Degree, Illegal Acts Regarding Election Documents, Unlawful Acts Regarding Elector’s Vote, Repeat Voting in Same Election. The trial began Monday, November 14th and concluded with a guilty verdict on November 16th in front of the
Honorable Chief Judge Kristina Graham.

The Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office received a report about a stolen camper last week. According to a report from the sheriff’s office, the complainant came to the sheriff’s office and reported that he had a camper parked at some relatives house on Mississippi Avenue at Cloudland. The complainant said that he recently purchased the 1973 “Terry Camper” and had left it parked at the relative’s house on the mountain. The complainant was not able to provide any possible suspects, but was able to give the VIN number for the camper to the responding deputy. The incident was turned over to an investigator.
