Coach Peek Says He Is Retiring

WZQZ News spoke with Chattooga County School Supt. Jared Hosmer who confirmed that Chattooga High School Head Football Coach Sean Peek says he will be resigning. Supt. Hosmer said, “I can confirm that Coach Peek met with his players Friday morning and told them that he plans to resign.” As of Friday afternoon, no other official statement has been released by the school system or Coach Peek.

Chattooga County Woman Arrested On Drug Charges

A Chattooga County woman was arrested in Walker County on drug charges.  According to docket records from the Walker County Sheriff’s Office, forty-eight-year-old Hope Ladyona Fletcher of a Milton Circle, Summerville address was booked into the Walker County Jail on charges of possession of a Schedule II drug. Fletcher posted bond and was released from jail on the felony drug possession charge.

Godfrey Named Acting Chief Of Staff For GHC

Nicholas Godfrey has been selected to serve as Acting Chief of Staff for Georgia Highlands College. Godfrey currently serves as the primary contact for media relations, government relations, and for the University System of Georgia and the Board of Regents. Additionally, he will work to oversee the execution of strategic initiatives and special projects for the Office of the President while enabling greater coordination, collaboration, and communication between all departments, the community, and the Office of the President.

Work On Highway 27 Near Chattooga River Bridge

Motorist on Highway 27 encountered some delays near the Chattooga River on Friday.  WZQZ News spoke with the Georgia DOT about the roadwork.  Joe Schulman, DOT District Six Communications Officer, said, “This is a maintenance project to correct a dip in the road as you reached the bridge headed toward downtown Summerville”.  Schulman said that there is not a completion date on the project, but it is not “expected to be too long”.
