On November 7, 2022 Dennis Dewayne Dockery, age 65, entered pleas of guilty to Rape, Aggravated Child Molestation, Aggravated Sexual Battery, Incest and Child Molestation. In exchange for his admissions of guilt, the Honorable Don W. Thompson sentenced Dockery to Life, to serve Twenty-Five (25) years in prison without the possibility of parole.

A forty-two-year-old Summerville woman was arrested in Murray County on drug charges. According to docket records from the Murray County Sheriff’s Office, Latasha Michelle Madden, of a Steven Street, Summerville address was charged by the Murray County Sheriff’s Office with drugs to be kept in the original container, possession of marijuana, possession and use of drug-related objects, possession of meth and loitering and prowling.
While the COVID-19 cases in Chattooga County are substantially less than they were this time last year, there was a slight jump in the number of cases reported over the past week locally. The previous report showed only one new COVID case in Chattooga County, but numbers released this week by the Georgia Department of Public Health show that there were five new cases reported over the past week in the county. Earlier this year, the state health department moved from a daily COVID reporting system to a weekly reporting system. Surrounding counties also saw an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases being reported over the past week.

On Thursday, Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler announced that Georgia’s October unemployment rate was 2.9 percent, eight-tenths of a percent lower than the national October 2022 unemployment rate of 3.7 percent. Georgia’s October rate was half a percent lower than last year’s October rate. Additionally, job numbers reached another all-time high, increasing by 3,700 from September.
The GBI is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Cartersville. On Thursday, the Cartersville Police Department asked the GBI to conduct an independent investigation. One man was injured. No officers were injured.
