The Chattooga County Library is announcing an escape room activity for adults. An escape room is a game in which participants are confined to a room or other enclosed setting and are given a set amount of time to find a way to escape by discovering hidden clues and solving a series of riddles or puzzles.
A twenty-nine-year-old Alabama man was arrested this week after he was accused of cheating two Northwest Georgia homeowners out of work that was promised. Authorities say that Kyle Handy of Rainbow City, Alabama was paid over $13,000 to do work that was never completed.

A sixty-five-year-old Rome man was arrested by Summerville Police on Monday of this week after he was found to be under the influence of alcohol. Police charged Stevie Lynn Thompson of a Bert Road, Rome address with DUI for alcohol, driving without proof of insurance, driving without a valid license, open container of alcohol and public intoxication. According to reports from the Summerville Police Department, Thompson was intoxicated outside Jefferson’s restaurant on Commerce Street in Summerville and was unable to maintain his balance. The report indicated that Thompson fell in the grass and was causing a disturbance. Once in his vehicle, he was stopped by police who found open containers of beer inside the vehicle. Thompson was booked into the Chattooga County Jail.
Tomorrow, Chattooga County residents will be able to cast their ballots for the General Election. Saturday voting will be available tomorrow, October 22nd and again next Saturday on October 29th.
A federal grand jury has indicted a forty-three-year-old Georgia woman in defrauding the Federal Emergency Management Agency in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria, the Department of Justice said.
A longtime employee of the Northwest Georgia Regional Commission was honored recently for her work for the organization for over six decades. Last week, Barbara Snead who is an executive assistant with the commission was honored for her years of service to the organization. The staff conference room at the commission’s office in Rome was renamed the “Barbara M. Snead Conference Room”. The Northwest Georgia Regional Commission is one of the oldest, rural, regional commissions in the United States and serves fifteen counties, including Chattooga County, in the Northwest Georgia region.
The Friends of Sloppy Floyd State Park will once again host “Halloween Hayrides” at the park. The hayrides will be held this weekend on Saturday and Sunday from Noon until 5 PM and again the next weekend, October 29th & October 3oth. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children 5 to 12 years of age. Children under 4 are free. Remember, a $5 park pass is required. The Friends of Sloppy Floyd State Park invite everyone to come out and enjoy this Halloween event at our local state park.
