Trion City Schools would like to announce the public review of the system’s proposed American Rescue Plan Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Plan (ARP-ESSER III) and the supporting budget. A copy of the American Rescue Plan Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Plan and supporting budget documents will be available for public review and recommendations. The public review is scheduled for Tuesday, September 27, 2022, from 8:00 am to 3:30 pm in the Board room at 239 Simmons Street, Trion, GA 30753. Elections for officers for the Chattooga County Farm Bureau are coming up next month.  The election will be held at the Annual Meeting scheduled on October 25, 2022 at 6 PM.  Local Farm Bureau members will be voting on president, vice-president and three board members. Nominations will be accepted until October 14, 2022 at 5 PM.  Nominations may be submitted to the Chattooga County Farm Bureau office at 9921 Commerce Street in Summerville.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention dropped the rating for all Northwest Georgia counties from “medium” to “low” late last week.  The report shows that all area counties – including Chattooga County are designated as “low” areas of transmission for COVID-19.  The area was deemed “high” by the CDC early in July this year.  In recent weeks that designation was dropped to “medium”.  Throughout the region, there were 122 new COVID-19 cases last week and none of those were reported in Chattooga County.

The 68th Annual DeKalb County, Alabama V.F.W. Fair opens today and runs through this Saturday, October 1st.  The fair is returning full force this year after two years of being hampered by Covid-19 restrictions.

The State of Georgia is facing a shortage of nursing and long term care facilities for the state’s veterans.  The Georgia Department of Veterans Services operates two nursing facilities for veterans in the state – one in Milledgeville and the other in Augusta, but looking to the future, the state will be facing more long term care for its veterans in the future.

The Labor Day Weekend Flood that struck Chattooga County at the first of September dumped over 12 inches of rain in Lyerly and forced the closure of Cemetery Road.  Three employees with the Town of Lyerly were recently recognized by the Lyerly Town Council for their work in getting the road opened quickly.  A culvert on Cemetery Road and Lyerly Dam Road washed out from the flooding, forcing the road closure.  Lyerly’s water and sewer manager Michael Cabe, along with employees Jason Shields and Marvin Hughs, Jr. were able to get the road reopened in just three days.  The local paper reported last week that the Lyerly Town Council voted to give all three men a $500 bonus to show their appreciation.
