People who travel in the Big Texas Valley area of Floyd County need to watch for new weight restrictions on a bridge on Big Texas Valley Road. Floyd County Public Works announced late last week that there will be new weight restrictions on Cabin Creek Bridge. Two-axle trucks (H-truck) are limited to 16 tons. The Georgia Department of Natural Resources recently held its inaugural Career Academy for high schoolers. Students shadowed staff from State Parks and Historic Sites, Wildlife Resources, Coastal Resources and Law Enforcement divisions.

Chattooga Middle School girls basketball tryouts will be held Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of next week. Middle School students from Summerville Middle School, Lyerly and Menlo are welcome to tryout. Students will need to have a physical and a copy of insurance on file. Tryouts will be from 4 PM – 6 PM each day.

The American Red Cross of Northwest Georgia will host a blood drive at the chapter office in Rome at 112 John Maddox Drive next Thursday, September 29th from 2 pm to 7 pm.
