A Summerville couple reported that they had several tools stolen from a house they were renovating in Summerville.  According to the complainants, the house is located on C-Street and there was a large assortment of power tools that were being kept there while the house was being renovated.  In addition to the power tools, thieves took a tool box and plumbing parts. According to police, the burglars broke a window with a rock in order to gain access to the house.  The thieves then exited from the front door on the west side of the house.  The incident is believed to have happened sometime between February 18th and February 19th.  The case has been turned over to an investigator.

A bill dealing with automobile insurance and sponsored by State Rep. Eddie Lumsden (R-Armuchee) passed the Georgia House on Tuesday.  The bill seeks to change the code section of Georgia law for underwriting policies to replace minimum standards currently required by the state, to be minimum standards provided by the carrier.

Georgia-based Home Depot predicts a slowdown in sales will continue this year, but it’s not all gloom and doom for the Atlanta-based company. While the home improvement giant reported a deceleration in sales at the end of last year and is projecting little growth this year, officials did shed some good news. To keep turnover costs low, front-line workers are getting a raise. Home Depot announced on Tuesday a one-billion-dollar investment in raising wages. And while the company did not disclose the new average wage for employees, it did say every market’s starting wage is at least $15 per hour.

Summerville Police were alerted to an attempted break-in at a business on Commerce Street on Friday of last week.  Around 9:30 PM, police received a call from a man who was passing by, who said that he and his wife saw a man trying to pry the door open on the Cedar & Rose Boutique at 9940 Commerce Street.  The man attempting to gain entry to the store was described as being a white male with a baseball cap on sideways and wearing a white jacket and red pants.  Police notified the owner of the business, who lives in Trion.  There was damage done to the door frame of the business.  Police searched the area, but were unable to find anyone fitting the description of the perpetrator.
