


The Summerville Seventh Day Adventist Church is inviting women to a free Ladies Spa day coming up on Sunday, March 19th from 1-4 PM at the Chattooga County Senior Center. The spa day will feature haircuts, manicures, shoulder massage and facial along with a luncheon and prizes and gifts.

A seventeen-year-old has been charged in connection with two burglaries in Rome. Police say that Joseph Lee Mize was arrested earlier this week in connection with the burglary of a business on Martha Berry Highway. He has since been arrested and charged with a second burglary and was additionally charged with theft by taking, criminal trespass and possession of a handgun by a person under the age of 18. Police say that Mize and two others were confronted by the owner of the business, who was armed, and the thieves fled before police arrived. Mize is accused of stealing a 40 caliber Smith and Wesson handgun in September of last year.

Summerville Police are investigating the report of a handgun that was stolen from a vehicle on 7th Street on Wednesday of this week. According to a report released by the police department, Irish Nicole Coats told a responding officer that she had her 2008 Kia Optima towed to her residence. When she got home she noticed some napkins sticking out of the glove box. Upon further investigation, the complainant discovered that someone had stolen a Taurus G3C 9mm handgun with a serial number of ADB984580 from the glove box in the vehicle. Coats told police she wanted a report filed in case the handgun was used by someone else. The gun was listed as being stolen and the incident is under investigation.

For years, the IRS has made clear that their first contact with you will not be a text or email. But it turns out that it might be a knock on your door.

A Chattooga County man called the sheriff’s office last Saturday after he had tools stolen from his pickup truck. The complainant, identified as Bobby Brewer, told a responding deputy that he was coming back from Mentone, Alabama with his girlfriend and his truck broke down on Gilreath Mill Road at Cloudland, about 100 yards from Highway 157. Brewer said that they called someone to pick them up and left the truck there. When Brewer came back to Gilreath Mill Road, he found that someone had broken into the truck and stolen tools. Also, items were missing from the console, and someone stole the battery from the vehicle. The incident is under investigation by the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation says that Georgia Department of Community Supervision Officer Bobby Evans, 57, of Thomson, was arrested and charged with two counts of Sexual Assault of a Probationer or Parolee and one count of Violation of Oath of Office by a Public Officer. Evans surrendered to GBI agents at the McDuffie County Jail.

You can now park on Broad Street in Rome without having to worry about the three-hour time limit. As part of a parking study, the three-hour limit is being suspended during the months of March and April. This only applies to on-street parking on Broad, not the parking decks.
