Chattooga County teachers are back in the classroom today and will be getting ready for the first day of school, which is this Friday, July 29th.
The Foundation at Georgia Northwestern Technical College (GNTC) is revved up to help 45 students with transportation costs next semester.
A thirty-seven-year-old Trion man was arrested in Cherokee County, Alabama over the weekend and held for another law enforcement agency. According to docket records from the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, Jeffery Baldwin was arrested on Sunday afternoon and booked into the Cherokee County Detention Center.
Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office investigators are looking for leads to identify those responsible for the damage to many grave markers this weekend. According to Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader, the damage occurred in the Alexander cemetery off of Spring Creek Road. Anyone with any information about the damage at the cemetery is asked to call an investigator with the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office at 706-857-3411. Tips can remain anonymous. A $500 reward is being offered.

MRS. EFFIE MAE RAY, age 74, of Summerville, Georgia, passed away July 5, 2022, at Her residence. She was born in LaFayette, Georgia on February 2, 1947, a daughter of the late Charlie Lee and Virginia Turner Crawford. Mrs. Ray was retired from the sewing department of Best Mfg. Company and was preceded in death by her husband, the late Walter Clay (W.C.) Ray on June 15, 2018.

Traffic was stalled on Highway 27 near Wal-Mart in Trion on Tuesday afternoon after an accident involving a van and a tractor trailer. Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader told WZQZ News that a vehicle ran under the rear of a tractor trailer. The driver of the vehicle was not seriously injured and was sitting up talking to EMS workers as they prepared to transport him. WZQZ will have more information on the accident as it is released. The Georgia State Patrol is investigating.
