Four years ago Georgia residents were getting used to a new law that said driver’s had to put down their cellphones when operating a motor vehicle. The law went into affect on July 1, 2018. After several years, law enforcement officers continue to write citations for people driving while having their cell phones in their hands.

Trion Police Chief David Gilleland says that the Town of Trion will be following the state law when it comes to fireworks. Chief Gilleland is reminding those within the Town of Trion that fireworks are allowed until midnight on the Fourth of July, and on weekends and other holidays. At all other times, there can be no fireworks past 10 PM. Please keep in mind fireworks safety as you celebrate Independence Day.

The Georgia Department of Labor came under sharp criticism during the pandemic for their failure to process unemployment claims in a timely manner. A preliminary agreement has been reached between the Georgia Department of Labor and attorneys who filed a class action suit aimed at pushing the department to speed up its handling of jobless claims and questions from claimants, federal court documents show. But after the agreement was reached, Labor Commissioner Mark Butler’s department issued a fiery statement about a press release concerning the settlement.
Georgia Supreme Court justices have upheld the murder conviction for a man found guilty in the 2015 shooting death of a Fort Valley boy. That’s according to the Supreme Court of Georgia.
