Mrs. Sandy W. Hunter, age 69 of Summerville, Georgia formerly of Palm Beach County, Florida, passed away Sunday, June 5, 2022 at a Rome Hospital.
The Summerville City Council will hold a called meeting this evening at 6 PM at Summerville City Hall. The council is expected to open sealed bids for the relocation of gas lines at the Raccoon Creek Bridge on Highway 48. Earlier this year, the Georgia Department of Transportation announced that they would be rebuilding the bridge. Since the city has utilities that run across the bridge, it will be the responsibility of the city to relocate the utilities. Also on this evening’s agenda, the council will be discussing the budget. Starting at the beginning of this month, hunters can apply electronically for quota hunts including youth, deer, alligator, waterfowl, dove and many others, according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Resources Division.

While checking on several “suspicious persons” at a South Main Street address last week, LaFayette Police made two arrests.
With the announcement that Dixie Specialty Fibers in Trion would be shutting down operations, around 80 employees were left without a job. Also, the Town of Trion was left with an empty manufacturing facility in the town’s industrial park.
Georgia Governor Brian Kemp convinced the Georgia General Assembly to issue surplus refund checks to Georgia residents and signed the bill into law several weeks ago. Since that time, checks have gone out to many Georgia taxpayers, but some people still haven’t received their portion of the $1.6 billion budget surplus.
Police in Cartersville, Georgia are investigating the death of a woman who was found unresponsive in her vehicle on Postelle Street. According to a police report, an officer had seen the woman in the vehicle around 8 AM. Later that evening, the officer observed the vehicle in the same spot. Around 11:30 on Friday morning, police saw the vehicle – still in the same parking lot – and investigated. When they looked inside, the woman was not breathing. Police found suspected methamphetamine inside the vehicle. The incident remains under investigation.

Summerville Police were called to a State Street residence last week after a woman reported that a man had slapped her after the two argued about a property dispute.
This past week the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church met in Athens and agreed to let 70 churches leave the denomination.
