On Thursday, helicopters began taking off and landing at Floyd Medical Center’s helipad as training exercises got underway at the new facility at the North Second Avenue entrance to the hospital’s Emergency Care Center.
The May meeting of the Chattooga Young Farmers is coming up next week. Young Farmer Director Lauren Jarrett says that Frankie Matthews from Advent Health Redmond will be speaking about Redmond’s service to Chattooga County. Also, Chattooga County FFA member and 4-H student Lane Bridges will be speaking at the meeting next week. The meeting will take place on Thursday, May 7th at the Chattooga County Ag Center. The local paper reported on Thursday that Chattooga County Commissioner Blake Elsberry has received two bids that would provide free ambulance service for Chattooga County. One of those bids is from the existing provider – Advent Health Redmond and the other is from Atrium Health Floyd.
An amateur disc golf tournament will be held in Trion coming up this summer. The event is scheduled for July 23rd and gets underway at 9 AM at the new Trion Disc Golf Course. There will be two rounds, both with a shotgun start. Lunch will be available from the Trion Recreation Center located at 90 Dalton Street. Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King announced Thursday that a recent Walker County fire has been ruled an act of arson. The fire occurred just after 3 a.m. on the morning of May 3rd at a vacant residence on Jones Street in LaFayette.
