Chattooga County Jail inmates collected over 500 pounds of trash on Monday as they picked up things from empty buckets to discarded mattresses along the county roadways this week. Litter is a real problem in the county, with miles and miles of scenic roadways trashed by illegal dumping and people throwing trash out of their vehicle windows. Already this year, the county inmates have picked up thousands of pounds of trash. With the warmer weather, county inmate crews are able to get out and pick up the trash, but the problem could be solved if people would just quit littering and dumping things illegally on our county’s roadways.
The Cobb County Superior Court has ordered the execution of convicted murderer Virgil Delano Presnell Jr. The court ordered the Georgia Department of Corrections to carry out the execution on a date between May 17 and May 24.

A Northwest Georgia man was arrested in neighboring DeKalb County, Alabama during a traffic stop after deputies determined he had outstanding warrants.

Last week a Taylor Street, Summerville woman alerted police about a stolen motorcycle. The motorcycle was later recovered after a police chase.
Governor Brian P. Kemp signed major opioid legislation to secure $636 million for state and local governments to bolster critical treatment and prevention efforts (SB 500). The funds are made available by the $26 billion multi-state opioid settlement with Cardinal, McKesson, and AmerisourceBergen – the nation’s three major pharmaceutical distributors – and opioid manufacturer and marketer Johnson & Johnson.
