A former Catoosa County Commissioner has tossed his hat in the ring for the State Senate seat being vacated by Senator Jeff Mullis. Steve Henry announced his candidacy earlier this week and spoke with WZQZ News about his decision to run for the state senate. Two Republicans, Henry and former Dade County State Representative Colton Moore, have announced that they will seek Mullis’ seat.
As a lead-up to March, American Cross Month, Georgia’s Red Cross promoted Carla Maton to the role of Executive Director for Northwest Georgia, and efforts are already underway to add board “leaders who are passionate about making their communities stronger” in the 15-county territory Maton calls home (Bartow, Catoosa, Chattooga, Dade, Dawson, Fannin, Floyd, Gilmer, Gordon, Murray, Pickens, Polk, Walker, Whitfield, and Union counties).
A Rome man was arrested Tuesday on felony warrants charging him with three counts of aggravated child molestation, and one count of child molestation. Twenty-three-year-old Demarcus Isaiah Creamer was taken into custody at his Church Street residence on the warrants issued by the Rome Police Department. No other details concerning the arrest were available in the warrants Wednesday morning at the jail.

As the conflict between Russia and Ukraine continues, crude prices soar, leading to higher pump prices in the U.S. with Georgia gas prices surpassing the 4-dollar a gallon mark. Gas prices are going well above $4 per gallon – up from an average of $3.88 per gallon earlier this week. In Chattooga County, prices are averaging $4.18 per gallon as of Thursday afternoon. Georgia Governor Brian Kemp announced earlier this week he is calling for legislation that will temporarily suspend the state’s motor fuel tax, which will save you about 29-cents a gallon.
A two-day child pornography sting around Floyd County netted seven arrests, including a youth minister, on various child sex charges.
MRS. ZOLA MOORE JOHNSON- Age 84, Of Summerville, Georgia passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2022 with the love of her family around her. She was born December 9, 1937 in Gaylesville, Alabama. She was predeceased in death by her parents, Johnny Johnson, Sr. and Fleedie Moore Johnson, son, Edwin Johnson, sisters, Sybil Stallings, Edith Reese, Laura Terhune, Lola Evans, Edna Moten, Sue Moore and brothers, Felix Moore and Johnny Moore, Jr.
More have qualified for local races this week. On Thursday morning, incumbent State Court Judge Jon Dennis qualified for another term. That race is nonpartisan. Also on Thursday, Lori Ann Brady qualified as a Republican for Seat 3 on the Chattooga County Board of Education.
