The Chattooga County Board of Education met on Monday for a very brief meeting. In fact, there was only one item on the agenda and that was to accept the resignation of a Summerville man who taught second grade at Lyerly Elementary School.

Former Chattooga County Sheriff and Georgia Emergency Management Agency Director Gary McConnell was the featured speaker earlier this month at Georgia Northwestern Technical College’s Basic Law Enforcement graduation exercises.
Over the weekend, the Floyd County Police Department announced that they had arrested several men who were caught in an online child sex operation where police officers posed as underage children and the men agreed to travel to Floyd County for sexual activity. Two Chattooga County men, one of them a teacher at Lyerly Elementary School, were arrested in the sting operation.
A federal agency expects to announce its decision today on whether to allow a launchpad that would send commercial rockets into space from coastal Georgia. However, the Federal Aviation Administration is emphasizing that a license authorizing Camden County to operate a spaceport would not yet permit the launch of any rockets.
