The Menlo Lions Club will be making their famous Brunswick Stew on the 12th of November and Pick up will be Sat morning on the 13th between 7 and 10 am. Location for pick up will be at the Menlo School Cafeteria. Since prices have gone up recently, the Menlo Lions Club has had to raise the price of stew to $30 a gallon or $8 a quart. The stew sales helps the Menlo Lions Club give $500 scholarships to Chattooga High School students who are going off to college next fall. The Trion Veterans Day ceremony will be held today at Trion Veterans Park at the track field in Trion. The ceremony will get underway at 1 PM with Master of Ceremonies Probate Judge Gary Woods. Mayor Larry Stansell will welcome the crowd and the Trion Fire Department will present the colors. The national anthem will be performed by Ally Croy. Trion Police Chief David Gilliland will give the keynote address. The public is encouraged to attend.
The Gordon Lee Trojans were no match for the Trion Bulldogs on Friday night as the Bulldogs rolled past Gordon Lee with a final score of 43-7. Rob Brown scored the first touchdown of the game in the first quarter with a 44-yard touchdown run. The Trojans were never able to recover and scored only once during the game. Less than a week remains until the ’21 Rome International Film Festival gets underway. The 18th annual festival will be held November 11th through 14th. It will be mostly in-person this year, asserts Mark Van Leuven, the President of the RIFF Board of Directors.
Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson is encouraging all motorcycle riders and clubs to participate in the 2021 Dino Richardson Memorial Toy Run coming up tomorrow. The proceeds from the ride will benefit the Al Millard Memorial Stocking Full of Love program that provides toys to needy kids at Christmas. Sheriff Wilson says that you need to bring a new unwrapped toy, or cash donation to participate in the ride that is happening tomorrow. The ride will start at Ridgeland High School at 2 PM on Sunday, November 7th.
