The National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) is warning the public of the increased criminal threat environment across the United States this Holiday Season. NICB’s analysis shows significant risk to individual health and safety, straining already-stretched police resources. These threats are expected to continue and potentially intensify during the holidays. Increased vehicular and foot traffic around stores creates more targets for opportunistic criminals.

Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King announced today that a Chattooga County fire was intentionally set. The fire occurred at approximately 7:21 a.m. on October 30th at Mount Vernon Mills in Trion. The fire caused several million dollars worth of damage to the 181-year-old, 1,000,000-square-foot plant.
If federal workplace safety requirements had been followed, a North Georgia site grading and pipeline contractor could have prevented the death of a 24-year-old worker who was killed in May after a fork attachment used on a front-end loader dislodged and struck the worker.
Trion United Methodist Church will have their Brunswick Stew available Saturday, December 4th. It is $8 per quart. It is on a first come first served basis. You may pick the stew up around 10:30 a.m. through 1:00 p.m.

To allow for increased holiday traffic, Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) announced today the suspension of lane closures on Georgia interstates and roadways near shopping centers beginning Wednesday, November 24 from 5 a.m. until 10 p.m. Sunday, November 28. These statewide lane closure restrictions will help to reduce traffic congestion during the Thanksgiving holiday. Similar restrictions will be in place for Christmas and New Year’s.
