Less than twelve months ago, Chattooga County had one of the highest unemployment rates in the state. The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 led to unemployment rates of over 12%. But now, the county’s unemployment rate is at a record low.
Someone apparently accessed names and contact information for several members of the Georgia Republican Party recently and attempted to defraud them of money, according to a GOP member from Winterville who lost $2,500 in the scam.
A former professor and dean at Georgia State University has pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography, federal prosecutors said.
Five Georgia counties will receive assistance with their housing needs through the Georgia Initiative for Community Housing (GICH), a public-private initiative that helps communities strategically grow their economies through local housing-related solutions. Baldwin County, Chattooga County, Gilmer County, Rabun County, and Towns County will begin the three-year program starting in 2022. Several of these are joint city-county efforts. Recently, the counties were recognized during a luncheon at the GICH Fall Retreat in Athens.
