



Chattooga County residents who were summoned to serve on the Traverse (trial) Jury for February 13, 2023 won’t have to show up. Chattooga County Clerk of Courts Kim James says that the jurors are released from their summons and do not need to report. Only the Traverse Jury for February 13, 2023 is cancelled. Over the weekend a couple of proud bald eagle parents could be seen with a new eaglet in their nest at Berry College.

If you have a child that will be four-years-old on or before September 1, 2023, you need to get them registered for pre-k. Pre-k registration is taking place for both Chattooga and Trion four-year-old children starting today.

There will be a Blood Assurance blood drive this Wednesday at Mount Vernon Mills in Trion. Those planning to donate blood should drink plenty of fluids including juice or water. It is a good idea to drink more water than your usual intake on the day of your donation. Donors are also asked to avoid caffeine and alcohol. The blood drive will take place from 7 AM – 5 PM. Blood Assurance is a nonprofit, full-service regional blood center serving healthcare facilities in Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, Kentucky and North Carolina.

The commission overseeing the regulation of medical marijuana will be voting on rules for the program on Wednesday of this week. The state is facing a lawsuit from 16 companies that were denied a medical marijuana license by the state – including one company that planned to operate a facility in the Trion Industrial Park in Chattooga County.

Mohawk says that inflation is hurting the demand for carpet. The company says that the worsened conditions of the economy are leading the company to longer than expected idling of some of its manufacturing facilities.
