Majority Leader Steve Gooch (R – Dahlonega) held a press conference at the Georgia State Capitol on Thursday to announce the Senate Majority Caucus’s priorities for the 2023 Legislative Session. Majority Leader Gooch was joined by Lt. Governor Burt Jones and President Pro Tempore of the Senate John F. Kennedy (R – Macon), as well as members of the Senate Majority Caucus.

Agents with the Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit Drug Task Force arrested a fifty-one-year-old Lyerly man and charged him with possession of methamphetamine. Agents say that James Melvin Bentley had methamphetamine, marijuana and hydrocodone pills in his possession when he was arrested on January 17th. The drug task force says that Bentley had more than 40 grams of methamphetamine, a bag of pot and several of the pills. He has been charged with methamphetamine possession and possession with attempt to distribute. He is additionally charged with possession of a Schedule II substance and possession of marijuana.
Summerville Police were able to recover tools stolen from a Summerville auto repair shop after the burglar who was accused of taking the tools posted the stolen goods on Facebook Marketplace.

Menlo Lions Club will be making Brunswick Stew on Saturday, February 3, 2023 and pickup will be Saturday morning between 7 AM and 10 AM. Price is $8 a quart or $30 a gallon. The stew sales helps the Menlo Lions Club give $500 scholarships to Chattooga High School students who are going off to college next fall. The commission in charge of the state’s medical marijuana program met on Wednesday of this week and adopted rules for the manufacture and sale of low-THC cannabis oil for medicinal use. The commission was created in 2019 by the Georgia General Assembly.
