The Chattooga County School System released its weekly COVID report on Friday of last week. There were 35 COVID cases reported district-wide. Six tested positive at Chattooga High School; eleven at Summerville Middle School; twelve at Leroy Massey Elementary School; two at Lyerly Elementary School and four at Menlo Elementary School. The report is released each Friday afternoon. Positive test results received after 1 PM on Friday are reported the next week.
Chattooga County residents and those in our surrounding counties of Floyd, Gordon, Walker, Dade, and De Kalb and Cherokee Alabama, are invited to show off their skills in the Blue Ribbon Department at the Chattooga County Agricultural Fair. The fair gets started this Thursday and will run through Sunday.

The North Georgia Cruisers will be sponsoring a “Cruise-In” next month. All of the proceeds will benefit the Cruisers’ annual Christmas Outreach Program. The “Cruise-In” will be held at Dowdy Park in Summerville on Saturday, September 4, 2021 from 3 PM – 7 PM. All cars are welcome to participate. Concessions will be sold at the event. The UGA cotton research team identified 24 Georgia counties where the presence of cotton leafroll dwarf virus (CLRDV) has been confirmed from commercial fields and UGA research farms during 2018-19. While the virus has not been found in any Chattooga County cotton fields, neighboring Floyd County and Cherokee County, Alabama cotton farmers have seen the virus.
The number of first time claimants for unemployment benefits in Chattooga County dropped significantly in July. A first time claim is one filed by a person who has not previously sought unemployment assistance in the preceding 12 months.
The latest county-wide COVID numbers for Chattooga County are not good and represent a dramatic increase since the first of the month.

A local farmer and well-known Summerville businessman passed away on Friday. Mr. Charles Black was a co-owner of local feed and farm supply store Black & Meek Milling Company in Summerville.
