Chattooga BOE Meeting This Thursday

The Chattooga County Board of Education will hold its first meeting of 2023 coming up this Thursday at 6 PM.  This week’s meeting will be the first for newly sworn-in board members Lori Brady, Tiffany Lawrence and Bonnie Fletcher.  The three were sworn-in by Chattooga County Probate Judge Gary Woods recently.  The new board members will be getting up to date on the progress at the new Menlo Elementary School building and other business at Thursday’s meeting.  The Chattooga County Board of Education meets at the  Chattooga County Education Center, located at 206 Penn Street in Summerville, and the public is invited to attend.

County Land Use Meeting Tomorrow

The Chattooga County Land Use Commission is meeting tomorrow evening to unveil changes to the county’s land use ordinance that was hastily adopted last year by Chattooga County Commissioner Blake Elsberry.

Kemp Pledging To Follow Through With Campaign Promises

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp was sworn in for a second term on Thursday of last week.  The governor had put off his swearing in ceremony by a couple of days to be able to watch the Georgia Bulldogs win their second National Championship in California earlier in the week.  Kemp, a UGA graduate, is a huge fan of the Georgia Bulldogs.  The governor is promising to follow through with his campaign promises – which includes income tax refunds and property tax rebates.

Felon Arrested After Assaulting Woman & Stealing Her Pistol

A Northwest Georgia man was arrested after he assaulted the woman who had bailed him out of jail.  According to Floyd County Police, thirty-five-year-old Jarad Thomas Michael Sanders of Lindale was arrested after police stopped him following the assault.
