State Senator Colton Moore is promising to have weekly legislative updates during the upcoming session of the Georgia General Assembly.  Senator Moore tells WZQZ News that his plans are to do a 30-minute video weekly about the happenings at the Gold Dome in Atlanta.  Moore said that in addition to talking about the legislative session, he plans to have guests on the program talking about issues important to his constituents in Walker, Catoosa, Dade and Chattooga Counties.  Senator Moore said that the videos will be available on the Apple platform and that he will also make the videos available to local media.  WZQZ News will be posting the weekly videos on our website at www.chattoogainfo.com

Two days before Christmas a Summerville woman reported a theft of cash at Wal-Mart.  The woman told a responding deputy that she had used the self-checkouts and requested $100 back in cash, but forgot to retrieve the cash from the machine.  The deputy reviewed video footage of the incident and identified a suspect who took the money after the woman left and did not turn the money in to the store.  The complainant didn’t ask to press charges but the deputy went to the suspect’s residence on Martin Street in Summerville and confronted her about the incident.  The suspect, identified as Deborah Marlene Smith, admitted to taking the money.  Smith was placed under arrest for theft of lost or mislaid property and was booked into the Chattooga County Jail.

During a called board meeting Wednesday morning to discuss personnel, Coach Eric Belew was approved and announced as the new head football coach at Armuchee High School.   Mr. Belew grew up in Columbia, Tennessee. His parents were both educators for more than 35 years and his father served as a high school football coach for over 20 years.

Chattooga County businessman William Benefield is going to put his touch on an iconic former restaurant in Rome.  Mr. Benefield has purchased the former Partridge Restaurant on Broad Street and told WZQZ News that he plans to reopen the place as a venue.
