This week, a Federal judge ruled that Georgia’s law requiring third-party and independent candidates to collet signatures from 5% of the voters who voted in the last election is unconstitutional.
As the weather gets warmer and we say goodbye to winter, a lot of folks in Northwest Georgia get the itch to start their gardens. While there are some cool-weather plants like potatoes and cabbage that can be set out early, it is probably a bit too early to think about other crops.

The Chattooga County FFA chapter would like to announce the start of their 2021 Spring Plant Sale. Plants have been grown by agriculture education students at Chattooga High School’s greenhouse located behind the school. There will be an in-person Spring Plant Sale this year that will follow all COVID-19 guidelines. A preview sale will be held starting today Tuesday, March 30- Thursday, April 1 from 9 AM until 5 PM and open again after spring break April 12-16 from 9 AM until 5 PM. Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King announced today that Rodney Jerome Thornton and Andre Jones were charged with violating Laws and Regulations pertaining to the Proper and Safe Installation of Fire Suppression Equipment as prescribed by Title 25. The two individuals in question were paid to do work at a minority owned business located at 15 Everett Springs Road in Rome.

Volunteers throughout Georgia are teaming up with the American Battlefield Trust to aid in the maintenance and restoration of six Peach State battlefields and historic sites as part of the 25th annual Park Day — a nationwide, hands-on preservation event. Since its inception in 1996, Park Day has attracted volunteers of all ages and abilities bound by their dedication to give back to their communities and keep our nation’s heritage pristine.
The Trion Rec Department is looking to hire additional umpires and bookkeepers for baseball/softball. High School students are welcome to apply also. Most games will be on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. The season is scheduled to start around April 12th.
