The GBI has charged Dougherty County Probate Judge Leisa Blount, age 56, with one count of Terroristic Threats and one count of Violation of Oath by Public Officer.
The Town of Lyerly has announced the return of the Community Easter Egg Hunt. The event will be held next Saturday, April 3, 2021 at Angus McLeod Park in Lyerly. There will be food and prizes with an Easter egg hunt for children up to twelve years of age. After the Easter egg hunt, the Town of Lyerly will provide hot dogs, chips and drinks. The event gets underway at noon.
The Chattooga River fell below flood stage after cresting at over eighteen feet on Friday. Flood stage is fourteen feet at the measuring station located on the Chattooga River Bridge near The Summerville News office on Highway 27. As of 5:45 AM on Saturday the river was over eleven feet. Swollen creeks and tributaries to the Chattooga River from the massive amounts of rain over the past several days has caused flooding issues and more rain is on the way.
MR. LEON SCOTT, JR.- Age, 81 of Summerville, Georgia passed away Wednesday, March 24, 2021. He was born October 31, 1939 to the late Leon Frank Scott, Sr. and Willie Mae Houston. He was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church and a graduate of A.C. Carter High School. He is preceded by his parents, sister, Annie Brown, and brother, Jerry Scott.

The Georgia Department of Labor (GDOL) announced recently that Georgia’s unemployment rate dropped 0.3 percentage points in February to reach 4.8 percent and has decreased 7.7 percentage points since the start of the pandemic. Georgia’s January unemployment rate was 1.4 percent lower than the national unemployment rate.
Chattooga County 4-H and other agriculture agencies across the state celebrated Georgia Ag Awareness Week on March 22 – March 26.
