We are waking up to bitterly-cold, arctic air this morning and it isn’t going to warm up much at all today. The National Weather Service in Peachtree City, Georgia has issued a Windchill Warning as the “feel-like” temperature will be well below zero today and into Saturday, Christmas Eve.
A twenty-six-year-old Summerville woman was arrested in DeKalb County, Alabama on drug charges, according to a press release from DeKalb County Sheriff Nick Weldon.
With the frigid temperatures ahead for this weekend, The Salvation Army of Rome will operate under its “white flag” policy. During the nights when the temperature drops to 32 degrees or lower, anyone may come inside at 7:00 pm to sleep on a cot with a blanket. They will be provided with breakfast the next morning and hot coffee before departing the property at 10:00 am. A hot dinner meal for anyone is served every night from 5-6 pm. If you know someone in need of overnight shelter during these cold nights ahead, please make sure they know about our “white flag” at 7:00 pm nightly located at 317 East 1st Avenue in Rome, Georgia. The City of Summerville offices will close at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 22, 2022, and reopen at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, for the Christmas Holiday.

Yesterday, the Georgia Supreme Court delayed the execution of a death row inmate in a 6-0 ruling for sixty-eight-year-old Virgil Delano Presnell, Jr. who was sentenced to death for the murder of eight-year-old Lori Ann Smith and the rape of her ten-year-old friend after abducting them in May 1976 as they walked home from school in Cobb County.
