Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader says that no inmates at the Chattooga County Jail have tested positive for COVID-19; however, eight of the jail staff have either tested positive, or are displaying symptoms of COVID-19. You can read a press release from the sheriff below:
Early voting continues this week in the Republican Primary Runoff election in Chattooga County. Voting is taking place at the Chattooga County Registrars Office on Commerce Street in Summerville.
A homeless, thirty-nine-year-old Rome man, Garvin Leonard King III, was arrested in the Pocket on Everett Springs Road last week after he terrorized and threatened a woman at her camp site.
For months, the Chattooga County Agricultural Fair Council has been meeting trying to plan this year’s event. After another successful event in 2019, fair council members began planning the 2020 event – but no one could have foreseen the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, the fair council is grappling with the decision of if they should go ahead with the fair for this year.
Two men were arrested for fighting over a woman at the Morgan Motel on South Main, according to LaFayette Police.
More and more black bear sightings have been reported in Northwest Georgia. There are some area of Chattooga County that tend to have more sightings – including the Lookout Mountain and Little Sand Mountain areas. However, state DNR officials say black bear can be seen anywhere in Northwest Georgia. One thing to remember – garbage is irresistible to a hungry black bear.
Chattooga County Tax Commissioner Joy Hampton is reminding residents that the tag and tax office will be closed today. The office is located in the Chattooga County Courthouse Annex which was closed on Friday after two county employees tested positive for COVID-19.
Due to a known COVID-19 exposure among front office staff the main lobby of the Summerville Georgia Police Department and the Summerville Probation Office will be closed until further notice in order to protect the general public and City employees.
