For the first time in 20 years, AAA will not issue a Memorial Day travel forecast, as the accuracy of the economic data used to create the forecast has been undermined by COVID-19. The annual forecast – which estimates the number of people traveling over the holiday weekend – will return next year.
The Chattooga County Fair Council met earlier this week and has announced that they are moving forward with plans for this year’s fair.
Mrs. Virginia Jo Johnson Nichols, age 80, of Mentone, AL, died Wednesday, May 13, 2020, at her residence.
Mr. Bobby Labron Cooper, age 64 of Summerville, passed away Wednesday, May 13, 2020 at the Floyd Medical Center.
The Chattooga County Fair Council met on Wednesday evening of this week and discussed plans for this year’s event. As it stands, the council is moving forward with plans to host the fair at the end of August.

Two bodies were removed from an area underneath a bridge in Floyd County yesterday. The bodies were found on Loop 1 near Grizzard Park on Wednesday afternoon.
The COVID-19 pandemic has caused some discussion about how people will be able to celebrate Independence Day this year. The City of Summerville has already announced that they will be cancelling the “Celebrate Independence” event that was scheduled to be held at the Chattooga County Ag Center. The LaFayette City Council discussed their Fourth of July celebration, but has yet to make a decision on this year’s event.
