County Man’s Golf Clubs Stolen

According to records released by the Chattooga County sheriff’s office, West Washington Street resident Dakota Finster reported that his golf clubs had been stolen.

Last Thursday around 8:30 PM, Mr. Finster told a county sheriff’s corporal that he had noticed his golf clubs and golf bag missing from the carport of his residence on Wednesday, the day before.

Mr. Finster informed the corporal that he had recently seen someone walking along the railroad tracks behind his home and that he believed that they may be the thief, but Finster did not know the identity of that individual.

Trion Development Authority to Meet This Evening

The Town of Trion Development Authority will have a meeting on Thursday, December 27.

The meeting will be in the Town Hall conference room and will begin at 5:30 PM.

Trion United Methodist to Sell Brunswick Stew

Trion United Methodist Church will be offering their Brunswick stew on Saturday, January 5th.  It is $7.00 per quart and should be ready around 10:30 AM the morning of the 5th.

The stew can be picked up in the fellowship hall until 1:00 PM, but the church usually sells out, so it is sold on a first come, first served basis. For any questions, you can 706-734-2802 between 9 AM and 1 PM.

Summerville Woman Reports Her Documents Misplaced

Summerville resident Linda Lawrence told a city police officer that her application for government assistance was misplaced by state workers with the  Georgia’s Economic Opportunity Authority in Chattooga County.

Alabama Unemployment Rate Down

The statewide unemployment rate fell from 4.1% to a flat 4.0% for the month of November, and Cherokee County once again, posted a rate far below that – coming in at just 3.2%.

Neighboring DeKalb County matched that rate – while Etowah County and Cleburne County each posted a rate of 3.6% and Calhoun County came in at 4.0%.

Counties with the lowest unemployment rates were Shelby at 2.5%; Marshall, Madison and Cullman at 2.9% and Morgan, Limestone and Elmore at 3.0%; the counties with the highest unemployment rates were Wilcox at 7.9% and Clarke at 6.4% – with Dallas and Lowndes at 5.8% each.

Mrs. Joyce Ann Williams, Obit. (ER)

Mrs. Joyce Ann Williams, age 76, of Filter Plant Road, Summerville, Georgia passed away Saturday, December 22, 2018, in a Rome, Georgia hospital. A native of Chattooga County, She was born to the late Harbin Monroe and Ethel Lee Green Stephens on March 13, 1942. Mrs. Williams was a member of the Lyerly First Baptist Church; was an accountant, having worked with several local business’, Bryant & Sons Lumber Company, H & R Block, and Bankson Oil & Tire. She was preceded in death by her Parents, husband, the late Nedwin Ray (Ned) Williams, and son , the late Nedwin Zane Williams.
