Polk Medical Center has been awarded gold status on the Honor Roll for Antibiotic Stew-ardship by the Georgia Department of Public Health for its efforts to safely and effectively administer antibiotics.
Mr. Demarcus Mashawn Etchison, age 41 of Summerville, Georgia passed away unexpectedly November 26, 2018 at the Redmond Regional Medical Center.

An infant’s unexpected death on Saturday in Trion has prompted a joint investigation between the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, according to Sheriff Mark Schrader.
It is not currently known how the 5-month-old little girl passed. The sheriff’s office first learned of her death Saturday morning when her mother called 9-1-1 from the family’s Ridgeland Drive residence around 7 AM.
Schrader added that the Department of Family and Children Services are involved, but did not specify its role in the investigation.
“Right now, we are just waiting to review the autopsy report from the medical examiner.”
Little Miss Gwendolyn Marie McCann, 5 month old daughter of Jasmine McCann and Anthony Lewis passed away unexpectedly Saturday, November 24, 2018 at the Floyd Medical Center. She was born in Rome, Georgia on June 17, 2018.
Mr. John Henry Perry, age 79, of Silver Creek, Georgia and formerly Summerville, Georgia passed away Monday, November 26, 2018. He retired from Inland Container Company after thirty nine years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Ligon Perry and Allie Knowles Perry, sisters, Georgia Ann Stewart, Louise Bush, Madeline Jett Brooks, and brothers, Richard Perry, Allen Hudgins.

County woman Rachelle Loveless reported to the county sheriff’s office that her vehicle’s catalytic converter had been stolen earlier this month.
According to reports, Loveless said that one of her tires went flat while she was driving on Highway 27 in Trion headed toward Lafayette. Since she didn’t have a spare, she had to leave her 2010 Ford Focus on the side of the road overnight.
Loveless returned for her car the next morning, fixed the tire, and started driving. However, she quickly noticed a loud noise, and when her brother looked under the car, he discovered the catalytic converter had been cut out.
The converter is valued at $700, and the incident is under investigation by the county sheriff’s office.
The 2018 City of Summerville Christmas Parade, to be held on Monday, December 3, at 7:00 p.m. This year’s parade theme is “A Small Town Christmas”.
Lyerly man Dalton Thompson was involved in a minor collision in Summerville with an elderly woman Sunday who fled the scene, according to reports from the city police department.
Thompson called the city police for insurance purposes after the fender-bender, telling the responding officer that he was traveling southbound on Commerce Street and approaching the intersection with Kelly St. when the vehicle in front of him suddenly braked hard.
After an unavoidable bump with the vehicle, Thompson continued, the elderly female driver told him she wasn’t hurt and then proceeded to drive off (reports do not specifically state whether she ever exited the vehicle).
Thompson left unharmed, but the accident dealt his 1997 Ford Ranger damage to the front end and a fresh oil leak. His pickup was towed by Luallen’s.
