One person was killed in a two-vehicle wreck Friday morning at Highway 293 and the bypass.
Floyd County Deputy Coroner Connie Chandler has identified the man who was killed as 76-year Therian Smith of Rome.
Preliminary reports indicate that Smith was driving a passenger car and turned right into the path of a tractor-trailer.
The wreck closed all lanes at the intersection.

On their last games of their regular seasons, both local football teams tied it up and put a bow on it: the Bulldogs celebrated their Senior Night by turning a tied-up halftime score into a comfortable win, and the Indians saw running-back E.J. Lackey make a 64-yard touchdown.
As the football season starts drawing to a close, the Chattooga Indians will have their last region/conference game tonight at Pepperell High School in Lindale. Trion finished up its region games last week with a strong win against Bowdon; the Bulldogs will be hosting their play-in this evening.
On Monday morning earlier this week, a Summerville Police Officer met with city resident Christopher Cook at Cook’s Scoggins St. apartment.
Cook informed the officer that he had discovered that two of his motorcycles had been turned over onto their sides. In addition, he said that his truck’s camoflauge seat cover, valued at $40.00, had been stolen.
The officer noted in his report that it appeared that someone had tried to detach the truck’s license plate, leaving it damaged as well.
Extra police patrol was posted in the Scoggins Street area in response.
Summerville Police Officers responded to a report last Saturday of an individual experiencing a medical issue.
When they arrived to the Martin St. address, the individual was found to be deceased for “some time” according to reports.
Coroner Earl Rainwater was called to the scene to pronounce the person as deceased.
Though reports do not specify the reason, the death remains under investigation. The responding officer recorded that the death is believed to be of a natural cause.
On Monday, the Georgia Department of Education released its annual College and Career Ready Performance Index, Georgia’s primary accountability metric for its primary and secondary schools. Trion City Schools’ middle grades’ 93.6 was the best CCRPI score for a middle school grade cluster in the entire state. On top of that, the overall system’s 88.8 was head and shoulders above other region schools in Northwest Georgia.
Early voting is heading into its last day in Chattooga County. As of yesterday, the county registrar says that 2778 voters have made their voices heard so far. Additionally, 280 absentee ballots have been mailed, 164 of which have been returned, making for a total of 2942 ballots cast so far.
Early voting will continue today (Friday) at the Chattooga County Registrar’s Office in downtown Summerville just south of the courthouse. The office will be open from 8:30 AM until 5 PM.

From a total applicant pool of nearly 42,000 high school scholar-athletes graduating with the class of 2019, Haley Davis and Tucker McCoy, have been named School Winners in Wendy’s annual scholarship competition.
