The Chattooga Literacy Council is hosting its annual Adult Spelling Bee on March 4th at 7 PM at the Chattooga County Agricultural Center. This promises to be an evening of fun, excitement, and friendly competition, all while supporting a vital cause. Teams of three will battle it out for the coveted Spelling Bee trophy, a symbol of linguistic prowess that they will proudly hold until next year’s competition. The entry fee per team is $300, and refreshments will be available throughout the evening. All proceeds from the event will directly benefit the Chattooga County Literacy Council’s important initiatives. Funds raised will provide GED scholarships for county residents, ensure every third-grade student in the area receives a dictionary, support the Book Bag Program, and keep local little libraries stocked with books for readers of all ages. The Chattooga County Young Farmers are excited to announce a delicious opportunity for the community to enjoy a tasty BBQ sack lunch while supporting local agricultural initiatives. On Friday, March 28, residents can enjoy a BBQ sandwich meal that includes a sandwich, chips, and a sweet treat, all for just $7 each. Lunch will be available for pick-up or delivery from 11 AM to 1 PM. Orders will be accepted until March 21, and pre-orders are appreciated. The pick-up location will be at the Chattooga County Ag Center, located at 40 Middle School Road. All veterans who served in the US military during the Vietnam era from November 1, 1955 to April 30, 1975 are invited to a luncheon on Friday March 28, 2025. The event will be held at 12 noon at the Chattooga County Memorial Home located at 818 Memorial Drive Summerville. All Vietnam veterans are encouraged to attend and bring their families to enjoy a time of food and fellowship.
The following day, Saturday March 29, is the official National Vietnam War Veterans Day which marks the day the last combat troops departed Vietnam on March 29, 1973. This national holiday is a time to pay tribute to the nine million Americans who served not only in-country, but at posts around the world in support of the lengthy war effort. It is also a time to thank the families for their support and sacrifices.

Mount Vernon Mills and the Trion Fire Department are inviting the community to participate in a blood drive that will be held this Wednesday, February 12th from 7 AM until 5 PM. The Teloga Community will host a mobile food pantry next Saturday from 10am-12pm at Beersheba Presbyterian Church. Please don’t hesitate to seek help if you need it. For safety reasons, please do not start lining up until 9:45am. Volunteers are always appreciated; please arrive at 9:15am to ensure timely parking and orientation. No ID is required; you will be asked a few questions before collecting your groceries. We hope to see the community come out and support this event. The Teloga Volunteer Fire Department will be doing traffic control.
The Chattooga County Beekeepers group will meet at 7 PM. on February 11, 2023, at the county agricultural center off Highway 100. The meeting will feature a presentation by Gary Rains, an experienced beekeeper from Walker County, who will discuss spring hive inspection. This event will provide practical knowledge for both new and experienced beekeepers. Attendees can ask questions and learn effective techniques. The Chattooga Senior Center is inviting the community to participate in a hotdog fundraiser on Friday, February 21st, from 10 AM to 2 PM. The aim is to raise money for senior programs and activities. For $10, attendees can purchase a lunch plate that includes a hot dog, chips, slaw, a Little Debbie cake, and a drink. Trion Elementary School will host the 8th Annual Daddy-Daughter Dance, themed “Under the City Lights,” on February 7, from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM in the Trion School Cafeteria. This event allows girls to bond with fathers or they may be escorted by an uncle, older brother or other significant male family member. Tickets are available at the school office, and attendees should dress nicely. The evening includes music, refreshments, and photo opportunities. Parents should RSVP by the end of January.
