Chattooga Chamber Meeting Coming Up

The Chattooga County Chamber of Commerce will be holding their regular monthly luncheon coming up on Tuesday, February 19th.  February is “Heart Awareness Month” and Redmond Regional Medical Center will be sponsoring this month’s Chamber program.  The event will include a “heart-healthy” lunch and will be held at the Chattooga County Civic Center, located at 44 Highway 48 in Summerville. Scouting For Food This Saturday

Chattooga County Cub and Boy Scouts will he collecting food this Saturday morning. Last Saturday, flyers were left at residences asking for donations of food and other non perishable items. This Saturday the scouts will return to collect those donations. All food and items collected will stay in Chattooga County, going to our local food bank.

Scouting For Food is one of the Boy Scouts of America’s best known national service projects and is conducted by virtually every local Boy Scout council across the nation on an annual basis.  Scouting For Food was first conducted on an national level as a National Good Turn by the BSA in 1986 and collected more than 60 million food items that year.

Historical Society Salutes Black Musicians

 – Jeneal Johnson to perform at Aretha Franklin 

The Chattooga County Historical Society will celebrate Black History Month at its regular membership meeting scheduled for 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 10th at the historic Summerville Depot. According to Reba Phillips Welch, the group’s program vice president, “We are so pleased to reprise last year’smusical program. The proposed lineup will be thoroughly entertaining.”
Black History Month Featuring Local Performers Linda Farmer Hawkins has again assembled a stellar group of singers for this celebration. Ms. Hawkins, a Historical Society board member, will act as emcee and will weave a historical narrative into tribute performances by local artists. She said, “Our goal is to present a program everyone will enjoy—both for musical pleasure and to learn a bit of the history behind some of America’s most memorable performers.”

CHS Diaper Drive For DFCS

Chattooga County Department of Family and Children Services (DFCS) is in need of diapers, wipes and pull ups of all sizes. Chattooga High School is serving as a drop off location for their diaper drive. If you would like to donate diapers, wipes or pull ups for DFCS please drop off items at the CHS front office.
