Both local football teams are off tonight for Fall Break. So far this season, Trion is 5-1 overall, 3-0 in their region, and Chattooga is 1-5 overall, 1-2 in their region. Last week, Trion went to Dalton, GA to hand Christian Heritage High School an impressive 59-10 defeat, with the Bulldogs keeping a steady advantage over the Lions. Chattooga just didn’t have the same amount of luck; by halftime, Rockmart had made 7 touchdowns and Chattooga not a one. Thereafter, the clock was let run and neither team scored in the second half. That game finished 48-0.

Next Friday, both teams will head south for Rome with the Bulldogs playing the Darlington Tigers and the Indians facing the Model Blue Devils. As always, you can hear both of those games on the web at www.chattoogainfo.com at 7 PM sharp, and we will rebroadcast them the following Saturday afternoon at 1. We hope all the local athletes take it easy this week to bring home big wins next week!

Due to the expected absence of multiple council members, Tuesday’s Menlo town council meeting was postponed, and has tentatively been rescheduled for next Thursday, Oct 12 at 7 PM, following a work session at 6:30 PM.

The Steam Into Summerville Railroad Days series of events in Dowdy Park will begin on October 7 with the annual Sum-Nelly Arts and Crafts Festival. Hours are from 9 AM to 3 PM and admission is free.

Sum-Nelly is an arts and crafts celebration that allows artists, quilters, musicians, food vendors, locals, and visitors to fraternize, exhibit, sell, and enjoy the beautiful fall weather of Chattooga County. Over 100 vendors are currently registered. The event is coordinated by the Summerville Recreation Dept. As part of the Steam Into Summerville Railroad Days event series, the Tennessee Valley Railroad’s Summerville Steam Excursion will be at the Depot during Sum-Nelly.

The annual ‘Your State Parks Day’ is Saturday, September 30th.  Interested individuals can volunteer their time to participate in special projects to address various preservation and beautification efforts of Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites. In addition to all of the other state parks and historic sites, there will be opportunities to volunteer both at Sloppy Floyd State Park in Summerville and Cloudland Canyon in Rising Fawn.
