The Chattooga High School Class of 1968 will hold their 55th Class Reunion on Saturday, September 23rd at the Chattooga County Ag Center on Middle School Drive in Summerville. Chattooga High School will host a Title I meeting coming up on Wednesday, August 22, 2023. The purpose of this meeting is to provide our Parents, Learning Coaches, and stakeholders with information about our Title I Program and your right to be involved in your child’s education. Schools receive Title I funds based on poverty percentage and school population. These funds are utilized for the most academically at-risk students to support school efforts tied to challenging state academic standards to reinforce and enhance efforts to improve teaching and learning for students. The purpose of this title is to provide all children significant opportunity to receive a fair, equitable, and high-quality education, and to close educational achievement gaps. The Chattooga High School Title I meeting will get underway at 5:30 PM and refreshments will be served.
The 2023 Twisted Ankle Trail Races will take place at Sloppy Floyd State Park on September 9th. Several distance options include a 5K (3.1 miles), 10 mile, and a Half Marathon (13.1 miles). This is a great event for beginner runners all the way to the seasoned runner. Since the race began in 2005, 100% of the proceeds stay at Sloppy Floyd State Park. Participants are encouraged to sign up before August 31 to be guaranteed a shirt. UGA Extension Walker County will host a summer forage pest update on August 16, 8:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. at the Walker County Ag. Center, 10052 Hwy. 27 N, Rock Spring, GA. One hour of private pesticide credit, commercial credit in category 21 and 22 will be offered. Recently isolated cases of armyworm activity have been reported through the state along with bermudagrass stem maggot. This will be a great opportunity for updates on management of these insects and pests. Fair time is fast approaching in Chattooga County and once again this year, residents of Chattooga County and the surrounding areas are being invited to enter items for the Chattooga County Agricultural Fair Blue Ribbon Department. Residents of Chattooga, Gordon, Walker and Floyd Counties in Georgia and from DeKalb and Cherokee Counties in Alabama are encouraged to enter items for blue ribbon judging. Find our more details HERE
