Coosa River Basin Initiative and Coosa Riverkeeper have announced their collaboration to monitor PFAS ( per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) contamination in the Coosa River Basin in Georgia and Alabama. PFAS are a group of human-made chemicals used in various industries for their stain resistant and flame retardant properties. These persistent chemicals have been linked to potential health risks and have been, in the past, dumped in waterways.
They share a lot in common and they both want to be the sheriff of Walker County . Incumbent Sheriff Steve Wilson and former Georgia State Trooper Commander Don Stultz are both natives of LaFayette. They both attended grade school and high school in Walker County. Both have spent their adult lives with careers in law enforcement and they have known each other pretty much their whole lives. Sheriff Wilson is sixty-six-years old and former Commander Stultz is sixty-five.
Jeff Owings has been directly responsible for teaching valuable skills that hundreds of Chattooga High School students carried with them into their chosen trades. Mr. Owings passed away on Friday after a battle with cancer.

Earlier this week, the Trion Fire Department responded to a call for an unresponsive person. When they arrived at the address on Cotton Wood Street in Summerville, they found a non-breathing, middle aged patient. Firefighters said that the man had already started turning blue in cover when they arrived around 7:30 PM on Tuesday evening. Firefighters began CPR immediately and until EMT’s arrived from AtriumHealth Floyd EMS. The patient was taken to a Rome hospital and due to the quick actions of the firefighters, is expected to make a full recovery.

The General Assembly overwhelmingly passed legislation Thursday defining antisemitism and incorporating it into Georgia’s hate crimes law. The state Senate approved the bill 44-6 after a nearly two-hour debate. The Georgia House of Representatives followed in a 129-5 vote.
