Georgia Governor Brian Kemp on Friday named a Waffle House risk management and security executive as the new chair of the State Election Board.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes (CEACC) Unit arrested and charged Sean Ferguson, age 41, of Walker County, Georgia, with three counts of sexual exploitation of children.
The Summerville City Council will hold their first regular monthly meeting of 2024 tomorrow evening. Three councilmen will be sworn in after winning re-election in November. They include Rickey Hughes, Joe Money and Zach Martin. The council will also be asked to consider modifying the pay and classification structure for the Summerville Fire Department. Water is also on the agenda, with the council expected to approve funds for the new wells for the Summerville Water District and they will also be asked to approve a GEFA Grant in the amount of $195,000 and a GEFA loan in the amount of $300,000. The meeting will take place at 5 PM at Summerville City Hall on Georgia Avenue and the public is invited to attend.
The political season is about to heat up across the Peach State and here in Chattooga County. In Georgia, there are two separate primaries held for both major political parties. The first will be the Presidential Preference Primary in March and the next will be the General Primary Election in May.

The Cloudland Volunteer Fire Department has the distinction of serving residents that live in two different states, two different counties and two different time zones. The volunteer firefighters at Cloudland serve residents on Lookout Mountain in both Chattooga County, Georgia and Cherokee County, Alabama. According to a report released this week by Cherokee County Emergency Management Agency Director Shawn Rogers, the Cloudland Volunteer Fire Department responded to eleven calls in Cherokee County, Alabama during 2023. Rogers pointed out that most of those calls were dispatched to Alabama by Chattooga County 911.
