State Senator Chuck Hufstetler (R-Rome) is not a big fan of Georgia’s film tax credit – at least the way the tax credit is structured now. A recent audit conducted by the Georgia State University Fiscal Research Center said that Georgia is losing money on the tax credits and the jobs that are created don’t make up the difference.
Although the meteorological winter began at the start of December, the astronomical winter in the Northern Hemisphere is still yet to begin, with a change on the calendar approaching in the coming days. The winter solstice marks the official start of the astronomical winter, while also representing the start of astronomical summer in the Southern Hemisphere.
Georgia gas prices decreased at the pump. Georgia drivers are now paying an average price of $2.96 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline (subject to change overnight). Monday’s state average was 7 cents less than a week ago, 12 cents more than a month ago, and 17 cents more than this time last year. It now costs an average of $44.40 to fill a 15-gallon tank of regular gasoline. Georgians are now paying $2.55 more to fill up at the pump compared to a year ago.
Chattooga County’s State Court Solicitor says that the local Republican Party can’t block candidates from the ballot who wish to run as Republicans in the GOP Primary in 2024.
The Chattooga County Registrars office says that notices were mailed to 221 Chattooga County registered voters on November 21, 2023 who completed a National Change of Address form with USPS and whose address appears to be within Chattooga County.
The GBI and the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office are seeking information about a 2022 homicide. Joshua Mitchell, age 37, of Douglasville GA, was found dead in his driveway on Saturday, December 17, 2022. He had been shot multiple times. The Paulding County Sheriff’s Office requested the GBI to assist with the investigation.

On Monday afternoon, the Chattooga County Joint Executive Order that had placed a burn ban in effect until January 1, 2024 was changed from a “burn ban” to a “burn warning”. The amended joint order between County Commissioner Blake Elsberry and the mayors of all four municipalities in the county says that county residents should check weather conditions before doing any outdoor burning. The burn warning is in place from now until January 16, 2024. You can see the amended portion of the joint executive order below:
