Chattooga County Tax Commissioner Joy Hampton says that if you are a Chattooga County resident and your birthday is in January or February, you may not receive a reminder to renew your tags. Normally, the state sends renewal notices as a courtesy to taxpayers sixty days prior to the due date, which is the taxpayer’s birthday.
The Trion Town Council will hold their regular monthly meeting for November coming up tomorrow evening. On the agenda for tomorrow’s meeting, the council will be discussing the new Public Safety Director’s position.
A seventeen-year -old teenager, Jonathan Mejia, was arrested by the Summerville Police Department last week on charges of DUI, underage possession of alcohol, driving without license, and no headlights. Mejia was traveling on Commerce street when he was pulled over for having no headlights on. After the Summerville police smelled a strong odor of alcohol from Mejia. He admitted to consuming alcoholic beverages and was in possession of alcohol in his car and could not provide a drivers license.
The Chattooga County Board of Education has tentatively adopted a 2023 millage rate which will require an increase in property tax by 15.52 percent. Because of this, the board is required to hold three public meetings. One has already been held and the next two are coming up tomorrow.
The Veterans Lunch last Friday Nov. 10, 2023 was a big success. Over 20 veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan era were recognized. Many other veterans from other conflicts and peacetime attended.

AAA projects 55.4 million travelers will head 50 miles or more from home over the Thanksgiving holiday travel period*. This year’s Thanksgiving forecast is an increase of 2.3% over last year and marks the third-highest Thanksgiving forecast since AAA began tracking holiday travel in 2000. The top two years were 2005 and 2019, respectively.
