The Summerville Mini Renaissance Festival will return today with pageantry, arts, music, dancing, artisans, theater, food, and more. Renaissance Performers will be on hand to give festival goers a magical experience. This year’s festival will be moved back to the Summerville Depot, where it originated. Festival hours are from 11 AM to 5 PM. Event goers can expect the added attraction of the train arrival around 1 PM.
Thursday marked a significant milestone as the Georgia Department of Labor (GDOL) unveiled a new brand logo and website redesign, marking a transformative era of change under the leadership of Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson. The unveiling is a testament to the department’s commitment to fundamental change, modernization, and establishing a people-first culture.
A forty-eight-year-old woman was arrested early on Friday morning after Summerville Police found her passed out in the Summerville Cemetery off Highland Avenue. When an officer approached the woman and got her to come around, she told police she picked that spot because “it is peaceful”. Police could smell alcohol on her person. Kimberly Joyce Perry was arrested and charged with public intoxication and was booked into the Chattooga County Jail.
According to the data released by the U.S. Drought Monitor on Thursday of this week, most of Chattooga County is considered to be in “moderate drought” conditions. Portions of Walker County and all of Dade County are experiencing “severe drought” conditions. The extended forecast doesn’t show much in the way of rainfall predictions for the next seven to ten days. The National Weather Service in Peachtree City, Georgia says during the upcoming week, we will see mostly clear skies with high temperatures in the 60’s and overnight lows in the low 40’s.
Atrium Health Floyd is inviting the community to a Community Celebration at the new Stand Alone Emergency Department a week from tomorrow. The event will be held on Sunday, October 22, 2023 at 2 PM and will feature a ribbon cutting, health screenings, door prizes and a tour of the facility. The new Emergency Department is located at 13583 U.S. Highway 27 in Trion next to Walmart. The opening date of the Emergency Department has not been announced.
