The City of Menlo is inviting little ghosts and goblins out on Halloween to celebrate with a candy walk and costume contest. The event will take place in downtown Menlo at Lawrence Park from 5 PM – 7 PM. There will be several categories for the costume contest, including overall best, scariest, cutest, and most unique. The event is sponsored by the City of Menlo and everyone is welcome to attend.
The GBI has arrested and charged Mark Harris, age 53, of Rossville, GA, with one count of theft by taking and one count of false statements/writings.
Charges have been filed in connection with a fatal motorcycle crash in the Shannon area in Floyd County back on September 14.

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp late last week announced he has signed an executive order extending a State of Emergency as a result of ongoing high inflation and uncertain economic conditions caused by the irresponsible policies coming out of Washington, D.C. This renewal continues the suspension of the state’s excise tax on motor and locomotive fuel.
A sixty-year-old Norcross, Georgia man was arrested in Floyd County last week on charges that he fraudulently cashed checks in Floyd County almost a decade ago.
Summerville Police were called to a residence on Spearmint Street last week about a stolen money order. When police arrived and spoke with the complainant, he explained to police that he had a neighbor over and was asking for the neighbor’s assistance in cashing the money order, because the complainant does not have a valid driver’s license, which is required to cash the money order. While speaking with the neighbor, another neighbor asked for the complainant’s assistance and he left his residence for a short period of time. When the complainant returned, he found one of the money orders that he had at his residence was missing. The complainant described the possible suspect to the responding officer and the incident was turned over to an investigator with the Summerville Police Department.
This is the time of year when folks like to take the short trip to the other side of North Georgia and buy apples and look at the changing leaf colors in the Northeast Georgia mountains. One town in Northeast Georgia is reminding visitors about Georgia’s “Slow Poke Law”.
The City of Summerville will hold their regular monthly meeting for October coming up this evening at Summerville City Hall. The meeting will get underway at 5 PM and there will be a question and answer session with the mayor and city council that starts at 4:30 PM. The public is invited to attend.
