Both the Trion Bulldogs and Chattooga Indians continue region play tonight and you can hear all of the action here on WZQZ.  The Chattooga Indians are 1-5 on the season and will face a tough test tonight on the road in Rome at Darlington.  Darlington is 4-2 on the year with wins against Christian Academy of Knoxville, Christian Heritage, Dade County and last week against Coosa 49-7.  The Tigers only losses on the season have been to Sonoraville and NW Whitfield.

Meanwhile, the Trion Bulldogs are 5-0 on the season and ranked 3rd in the state according to the AJC.  The Bulldogs will celebrate homecoming tonight as they welcome the Coosa Eagles to Sam R. McCain stadium.  Trion is coming off a tough 28-21 win on the road last week at Dade County.  Coosa is 3-3 on the season and is coming off two straight losses to Armuchee and Darlington.

The Chattooga at Darlington game will be the radio game tonight and will be broadcast on 99.1 FM and AM 1180.  Join WZQZ’s Paul Cavin as he will call the action live from Rome.  Both the Trion and Chattooga games will be video streamed live on the WZQZ Facebook page.  Ben Groce and Jeremy Burke will call the action for the Bulldogs tonight from Trion.  The pregame show starts at 7pm with kickoff to follow at 7:30 pm.

Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader says that county inmates have picked up over 8 tons of garbage and litter off the county’s roadways so far this year.  The inmate work details picked up 1,480 pounds of garbage during the month of September; bringing the year’s total to 16,870 pounds.  Sheriff Schrader shared a post on social media that said: “Please stop littering!!!”  The sheriff says that it is a shame for that much litter to be on the roadways of our beautiful county.

Two Chattooga County residents were arrested on Tuesday of this week in neighboring Cherokee County, Alabama. According to jail reports from the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, sixty-one-year-old Tamala Searcy of Summerville was arrested on drug possession charges.  Fifty-three-year-old Thomas Searcy was arrested on charges of being a fugitive from justice.  According to arrest reports, both were arrested shortly before midnight on Tuesday by the Leesburg, Alabama Police Department.

The train is returning to Summerville every Saturday in the month of October and tomorrow is one of the longest-running annual events in the area.   SumNelly Arts and Crafts Festival will get underway on Saturday morning at Dowdy Park.

Sum Nelly is a celebration that allows artists, quilters, musicians, food vendors, locals and visitors to gather and enjoy the beautiful fall weather of Chattooga County.

A Menlo man was indicted by the Chattooga County Grand Jury for an incident that happened in May of this year.  Christopher Chase DeBerry was arrested back in May on charges of simple battery under the Family Violence Act, crossing guard lines with drugs and inflicting pain or depriving services to an elderly or disabled person. He was also indicted on one count of possession of a dangerous drug.  DeBerry has a long history of arrests in both Chattooga and Floyd Counties.

A 63-year-old Rome man was jailed Tuesday on charges of criminal attempt to commit aggravated child molestation, obscene internet contact with a child, and use of a computer to entice a child.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

Donnie Wayne Phelps met someone he believed to be under 16 online, engaged in a graphic conversation, and asked to meet the child for sex acts.

He then traveled to an undisclosed location in Floyd County to meet the child and was arrested.

Bosom Buddies, a community-wide breast cancer support group, will meet on Monday, Oct. 16 from 6 to 7 pm in the boardroom at AdventHealth Redmond.

Bosom Buddies is open to the public for anyone affected by breast cancer. Each meeting is led by a different guest speaker, a light dinner is provided and a donated door prize is given. The meeting will be led by Paige Godwin, RN.
