The City of Summerville has announced that there is a chance to get an engraved brick at the World Friendship Pocket Park.  If you missed it the first time the bricks were sold, now’s your chance.  There are less than 100 bricks available.  The cost is $100 per brick.  Once these bricks are sold, there will be no more available.  If you are interested in purchasing a brick at the World Friendship Pocket Park, located across from the Summerville Depot, you should contact Susan Locklear with Summerville Main Street.

The Powerball jackpot climbed to $1.4 billion—the fifth largest in U.S. history—after no tickets matched all six numbers drawn on Wednesday night, although the winner will end up with a much smaller amount after paying their tax bill.

Remember the Corpsewood murders?  The story about reclusive, supposed devil-worshippers that lived on Taylor’s Ridge in Chattooga County made national headlines.  The suspects in that case were prosecuted by then District Attorney Ralph VanPelt.  VanPelt went on to serve as a judge in the Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit.  Now retired, Judge VanPelt saw many historic events over his years in office, both as a district attorney and as a judge.  He will be speaking tomorrow at the Chattooga Historical Society, which will be holding their quarterly meeting at the Historic Summerville Depot at 1 PM.  The meetings are free and open to the public.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, Wildlife Services, working cooperatively with the Georgia Department of Health, is distributing oral rabies vaccine (ORV) baits for wildlife in parts of North Georgia during October. The smell of the ORV baits attracts targeted wild animals, such as raccoons, who eat the baits and are then vaccinated against rabies.

A forty-five-year-old Chattooga County man was arrested yesterday in Floyd County on multiple charges, including identity fraud, second-degree forgery and negotiating fictitious checks.  Floyd County Police say that Ashford Lamont Price of Summerville  and another individual used a financial slip order along with the victim’s identification in the drive-thru at a bank on Martha Berry Highway to obtain $600 from the victim’s account. Price then refused to provide his real name to police. He is also charged with misdemeanor counts of obstruction and giving false information.

Georgia Northwestern Technical College (GNTC) received a $40,000 grant from Truist Financial Corporation to support Adult Education.

A Summerville woman was arrested on Tuesday of this week after she hit another woman on the porch of a residence on James Street.  According to a report from the Summerville Police Department, the victim had come to a residence to check up on a family member that was ill.  Thirty-four-year-old Tabitha Milam told the victim to leave the residence and followed the victim out on the porch where Milam is accused of punched the victim in the face, causing a laceration to the victim’s eye.  Milam was arrested and charged with battery and simple assault in connection with the incident.
