Trion vs Lafayette Tonight On WZQZ

The Trion Bulldogs are looking to build on last week’s season opening 56-14 win over arch rival Gordon Lee with a second straight home game tonight against the Lafayette Ramblers.  Trion opened the season ranked 10th in the AJC Class A rankings and moved to #9 after last week’s victory.  Lafayette is 1-0 on the season after a win at home last week against Chattooga 28-3.

Trion Fire Department Responds To Illegal Burn

The Trion Fire Department responded to and extinguished an illegal fire in Trion earlier this week. The fire department posted, “We’re educating residents that effective May 1st-September 30th, EPD’s Open Burning Ban is enforced. Open burning is allowed October 1st-April 30th of each year. During this time, you may burn limited yard debris such as leaves, pine straw, and small limbs from growth on your property. It’s always unlawful in the state of Georgia to burn man made material and it’s very important that you never let a fire burn out on its own, unattended”.

COVID-19 Numbers Remain High In Northwest Georgia

Chattooga County saw 35 new COVID-19 cases over the past week, according to numbers released on Wednesday from the Georgia Department of Public Health.  Throughout the Northwest Georgia region, there were two deaths reported – one in Floyd County and one in Bartow County.  Overall the Northwest Georgia region has the highest number of new cases reported in the state at 361.  That number is the highest it has been in the last eleven months.  Dr. Gary Voccio, Health Director for the Georgia Department of Public Health’s Northwest Health District, said recently that the recent increase in COVID-19 cases is believed to be from the EG.5 variant.

 

Region Sees Decline In Unemployment For July

Georgia Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson said Thursday that all of Georgia’s Regional Commissions reported a decline in July unemployment rates.

Lamb Show Tonight At Chattooga County Fair

The Chattooga County Agricultural Fair opens for the second day at 5 PM this evening.  There are 4H and FFA Livestock Shows happening every day of the fair.  Tonight will be the 4H and FFA Jr. Market Lamb Show.  The show will start at 5:30 PM.  On Saturday, there will be two livestock events.  At 1 PM the 4H and FFA Jr. Beef Show will take place and then at 6:30 PM, the 4H and FFA Poultry Show and Auction.  All livestock shows are included with your $5 gate admission to the Chattooga County Agricultural Fair.

Hands Across The Boarder Driving Campaign Starts Monday

State and local law enforcement officers remind everyone to never make the mistake of driving after drinking because those who do could find themselves sitting in a jail cell.
Georgia law enforcement officers are issuing this warning prior to the start of the 32nd annual “Hands Across the Border” drunk and driving enforcement prevention campaign, which starts Monday in Georgia and four southeastern states.
