Trains Could Return This Fall To Summerville

Earlier this week Chattooga County Commissioner Blake Elsberry released correspondence between the Chattooga & Chickamauga Railroad and his office concerning the rail road crossing on Highway 27 near Farrar Drive in Summerville.  The railroad is planning to repair the crossing in September, and it appears that could be clearing the way for trains to return to The Summerville Depot – maybe as early as this fall.

Gaylesville Woman Arrested In Georgia

A twenty-seven-year-old Gaylesville, Alabama woman was arrested in Floyd County this week on charges of shoplifting.  Reports from Floyd County Police say that Sierra Denae Cook is accused of taking $600 worth of merchandise from the East Rome Walmart without paying for it.  Cook is then accused of giving a false name to officer.  She was charged with felony theft by shoplifting and giving a false name to law enforcement and was booked into the Floyd County Jail on Wednesday of this week.

Georgia Man Sentenced For Pandemic Relief Fraud

U.S. Attorney’s Office for The Northern District Of Georgia Collects Over $108 Million in Civil and Criminal Actions in Fiscal Year 2016

A Georgia man has been sentenced to one year and nine months in federal prison for obtaining nearly a half million dollars through fraudulent pandemic relief loan applications.

WZQZ News reported that Branden Scott Barnett, age 29 of Summerville, was arrested for a hit and run earlier this week.  Information from Floyd County indicates that the arrest was in connection with an accident that occurred on August 5th in Floyd County.

FBI & Local Law Enforcement Looking For Missing Walker County Girl

Several law enforcement agencies are working to track down a 14-year-old Walker County girl who has been missing for weeks. The FBI in Atlanta along with LaFayette Police  are asking for help to find Graycie Millard. Authorities said she has been missing from her home since July 27. She’s described as having black hair and blue eyes, weighs around 115 pounds and stands at 5-feet 6-inches tall.  People who may know of Millard’s whereabouts are asked to submit tips to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children here.
